Disaster Class Descriptions

 

Orientation/Intro to Disaster*

*Prerequisite to all other disaster courses  

First things first — a must for all disaster want-to-be volunteers! Provides an overview of how and what the Red Cross does in response to disasters — from hurricanes to residential fires.

This course may be completed online.  There are two ways to get there:

(1) Go to www.redcross.org

On the upper left hand side of the front page, click on “Disaster Services”. It will take you to the next page where on the right hand side of that page you will find a section marked “Spotlight”. Click on Take the Introduction to Disaster Services Course (more).  This will take you right to the presentation.

Mass Care:  An Overview

Learn the basics behind Red Cross feeding and sheltering during a disaster.

 

 

Disaster Assessment

Learn how to determine the size and scope of a disaster and the level of damage sustained by residential dwellings.

 

 

Family Services

Develops the interviewing skills, knowledge, attitudes and relationships needed to meet individual disaster-caused needs on relief operations.

Fulfilling Our Mission: Translating Your Compassion into Community Action  - The purpose of this course is to enable you to translate your care and compassion into community action. You will assess how your skills and abilities can strengthen the capacity for your community and the Red Cross to better serve people affected by disaster.

Shelter Operations - 6 to 9 pm - PART 1

Shelter Simulation - 6 to 9 pm - PART 2
